This is fascinating!
One day, I was captivated by a sound I heard on social media.
I thought it was wonderful and tried to get the sheet music,
but when that didn't work out, I ended up contacting the composer directly, who promptly arranged to send me the PDF right away.
Sam Sadigursky
Sam Sadigursky was born and raised in Los Angeles, California. He played piano briefly at an early age and then began playing saxophone at the age of 11 and then clarinet at age 15. In high school, Sadigursky was the recipient of the John Coltrane Young Artist Award, the NFAA YoungArts award, the Music Center Spotlight Awards, a member of the Grammy All-American High School Big Band, and toured Japan as part of the Monterey Jazz Festival All Stars.
Sadigursky attended William Paterson University starting in 1997 and graduated in 2001. While still in college, he recorded an album as part of the collective group Spirals, which included Jacob Sacks, Don Peretz and Eivind Opsvik, and also played on veteran Japanese clarinetist Eiji Kitamura's album Jazz Party, an album which also featured bassist Ray Brown, cornetist Bill Berry, and drummer Jake Hanna. (borrow from wiki)
Clarinet Etudes and Clarinet Duets
He has published three collections of clarinet etudes. 25 Clarinet Etudes Book 1 was published in 2009, followed by 25 Clarinet Etudes Book 2 in 2011, and 10 Extended Etudes for Clarinet was published in 2017. 36 Clarinet Duets was released around 2022 or 2023. (I apologize if any of this information is incorrect)
Each piece is very interesting, being minimalist in nature, incorporating register key practice or Latin rhythms, drawing from the composer's extensive experience in contemporary and jazz music. I believe these are exactly the kind of etudes and duets that the today's clarinet world needs in this era.
Multitrack recording
I recently recorded it using multitrack recording.
This is a piece from the clarinet duets called "Movie Music". I performed it trying to maintain a straightforward and clean approach without too much expression that might disrupt the atmosphere, while still aiming to create a mysterious feeling.
If you're interested in these pieces and sheet music, you can contact the composer directly - why not connect with him on his Instagram?
Now let's keep practicing hard this winter!
